PhonePe, Paytm, Google Pay Users: UPI Transactions to Get Faster From June 16

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions are set to become significantly faster starting June 16, as the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has directed all members to reduce response times across key UPI services.
According to a circular issued by NPCI, the permissible response time for several UPI Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) — such as those used for transaction status checks and transaction reversals — has been cut from 30 seconds to just 10 seconds. Similarly, the response time for the “Validate Address (Pay/Collect)” API will now be 10 seconds, down from 15 seconds.
These changes are designed to enhance the user experience by reducing delays in digital payments, especially for remitter banks, beneficiary banks, and Payment Service Providers (PSPs) such as PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm.

The NPCI has asked its members to make the necessary system upgrades and ensure all changes are implemented by June 16. The revised benchmarks will enable smoother transactions, faster status updates, and quicker reversals of failed payments, leading to fewer customer complaints.
“These revisions are intended to improve the customer experience. Members are required to ensure that they make the necessary changes in their system so that responses are handled within the revised time,” the NPCI said. The directive also advised members to coordinate with partners or merchants if any configuration changes are needed on their end.

The move is expected to benefit millions of UPI users across India by further strengthening the speed and reliability of the country’s digital payment infrastructure.
