Nirmala Sitharaman Inaugurates New DRI Headquarters in New Delhi

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday inaugurated the new state-of-the-art headquarters building of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in New Delhi. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary also graced the event, which saw the presence of Revenue Secretary Arvind Shrivastava, CBIC Chairman Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, Member (Compliance Management) Mohan Kumar Singh, DRI Director General Abhai Kumar Srivastav, senior officials from CBIC, international delegates, and other law enforcement authorities.

Speaking at the inauguration, Sitharaman lauded the DRI for its strategic role in national security and economic safeguarding. She applauded the timely completion of the new headquarters and urged officers to embrace the motto of ‘Reform, Perform, and Transform’ as guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Stressing a balanced approach, she said, “Enforcement and facilitation are not opposites. Investigations must focus on the big picture and be rooted not just in data, but also in dharma.”

The Finance Minister called for dismantling entire smuggling syndicates, enhancing coordination between agencies, and deepening international cooperation in tackling transnational economic crimes.

Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary praised the DRI’s adoption of advanced technologies and data-driven tools, reinforcing its status as one of the most respected enforcement agencies globally.

Revenue Secretary Arvind Shrivastava highlighted the DRI’s role in strengthening India’s economic framework and ensuring a secure environment, which is crucial for the country’s aspiration of becoming a developed nation under the Viksit Bharat vision.

The new DRI headquarters spans 6,200 square metres and is designed with modern amenities, sustainable features, and cutting-edge infrastructure to support the agency’s expanding operational scope.
