Trump Plans to Cut All Federal Funding to Harvard University

Trump

In a dramatic escalation of its stance toward elite academic institutions, the Trump administration is preparing to cancel all remaining federal contracts with Harvard University, amounting to approximately $100 million.

A draft letter from the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), dated May 27 and obtained by The New York Times, outlines plans to sever the federal government’s longstanding business relationship with the university.

The letter, scheduled to be sent to federal agencies on Tuesday, instructs them to “find alternative vendors” for future services previously provided by Harvard. The move is seen as part of a broader effort by the administration to reduce the university’s financial influence and global standing.

An administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity, described the plan as a “complete severance” of ties between the U.S. government and Harvard. The decision follows previous measures that froze approximately $3.2 billion in federal grants and contracts with the university and sought to restrict its ability to enroll international students.

This latest development signals the administration’s intensified efforts to hold what it calls “elitist institutions” accountable. Critics argue that the move is politically motivated and could significantly impact Harvard’s research capabilities and international collaborations.
