Citi Names Prashant Thakker as Head of Corporate Banking for South and Southeast Asia

Citi has appointed Prashant Thakker as the Head of Corporate Banking for South and Southeast Asia, underscoring the global banking group’s focus on strengthening its presence in one of the fastest-growing economic regions.

The appointment, which is effective immediately, was announced internally and confirmed by Citi. Thakker will oversee corporate banking operations across nine countries including India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.

In his new role, Thakker will be responsible for driving business strategy, improving financial performance, developing talent, and implementing Citi’s initiatives across the region. His responsibilities will cover local corporates, financial institutions, public sector clients, and global network banking businesses.

Thakker will report to Jason Rekate and John Chirico, Citi’s Global Co-Heads of Corporate Banking, and Amol Gupte, Head of the Asia South Cluster.

With over 20 years of experience in the financial sector, Thakker has spent a significant part of his career at Citi. He joined the bank in 2007 as a corporate banker in India, where he built strong relationships with top Indian companies and earned recognition for his approach to risk and client service. In 2013, he moved to Hong Kong and took on senior roles including Head of Capital Management for Japan, Asia North, Australia, and Asia South. In this position, he managed a portfolio of global loan assets valued at over 40 billion dollars.

Thakker’s expertise spans corporate finance, leveraged finance, credit risk, and portfolio management. He will be based in Singapore, one of Citi’s key Asia-Pacific hubs, where he will focus on expanding client relationships and identifying growth opportunities in South and Southeast Asia.

Citi’s leadership believes that Thakker’s appointment will help drive the next phase of growth in the region, as demand for complex banking solutions and cross-border financing continues to rise. His deep regional knowledge and leadership experience are expected to play a crucial role in executing Citi’s long-term strategy across the Asia South cluster.
